Multidimensional Metal - Metal Sculpture by Julie Girardini and Photography on Metal Plates by Ken Girardini at Isadore Gallery

Multidimensional Metal:
Metal Sculpture by Julie Girardini and
Photography on Metal Plates by Ken Girardini

June 2 - July 16, 2011
"First Friday" Reception June 2nd and July 16th, 5-9PM

Multidimensional Metal – Metal Sculpture by Julie Girardini and Photography on Metal Plates by Ken Girardini will be on display at Isadore Gallery, 228 N. Prince Street in Lancaster from June 2 through July 16.

Julie and Ken Girardini are a husband and wife design team that have exhibited in fine art and craft shows for 20 years. They grind, polish, patinate, and weld metal into art and objects of every day life that are functional and beautiful. Julie creates 3-D sculptures with cold finished steel. Ken assembles photographic collages on metal canvases. Some of their pieces are collaborations using both of their talents.

Julie Girardini has a Bachelors Degree in art history from the University of Maryland. Her metal sculptures are motivated by her interest in the journeys we take in life—both physical and emotional. They include iconic forms: boats, nests, pods that “hold the essence of where we are coming from… but at the same time are all vessels of new beginnings.” “I have chosen a life of creativity and I do use many different mediums in my work. Steel copper glass patina encaustic thread paper imagery - there is nothing that is off limits. I want to bring an emotional experience to those who view my work - if I do this I have succeeded as an artist.”

Ken has an engineering degree from Penn State. For 12 years he was a space defense analyst for NORAD and a data analyst to the Space Shuttle. During this time he took classes in painting, photography, printmaking, glassmaking and metal sculpture. Ken’s metal portraits describe a feeling or moment in the subject’s life. He digitally manipulates photographs, prints them on transparent media, and then layers them on aluminum or steel canvases along with other media such as paint, gold leaf, paper and wood.

“We choose to make a living by making what our minds imagine.” Together they started Girardini Fine Art and Design in 1991. They have exhibited in the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, the Washington Fine Craft Show, and the Craft Council shows in Baltimore, Atlanta, and San Francisco. Julie has been a juror for the American Craft Council show. Ken was the recipient of two Maryland state art grants.

Please join us for the First Friday Receptions on June 3 and July 1, 5-9 PM.
