Presenting

"Heartland: Woodblock Prints, Paintings and Drawings" by Max-Karl Winkler
September 2 - September 29, 2010
"First Friday" Reception September 3rd, 5-9PM
Isadore Gallery is proud to exhibit the landscape work of Max-Karl Winkler. Winkler is primarily a woodcut artist, but he is also showing some of the drawings and watercolors that preceded the prints so that people sensitive to pictures may observe the progress of an idea. In a few instances, the same subject is treated as a drawing, as a watercolor and finally as a woodcut. Most of the landscapes derive from the artist’s travels. The show is entitled “Heartland” because these works all derive from places or events that are close to his heart.
Winkler is currently a full-time illustrator and printmaker, and a part-time teacher in the Smithsonian Associates Program of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. For 15 years he worked as a scientific illustrator in the National Science Resources Center at the Smithsonian Institute. His works have been accepted in a number of national and regional juried exhibitions and are in the permanent collections of The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Georgetown University, The National Museum of American History, The Smithsonian Institution, and The Library of Congress. He is active in the Washington Print Club and is a former president and vice president of the Washington Printmakers Gallery.
