"Appreciating Prints"
March 4 - March 27
"First Friday" Reception March 5th, 5-9PM
Join us at 6pm for a talk on Understanding and Collecting Prints
From March 4th through March 27th, “Appreciating Prints” will be the featured exhibit at Isadore Gallery in Downtown Lancaster. The show will include contemporary prints created by a variety of different local printmakers and a selection of lovely vintage prints. The vintage prints were collected by Isadore Lichstein, for whom the gallery was named, in the 1960’s as a member of a print club that promoted the work of printmakers in order to bring reasonably priced original artwork to a wider audience.
The exhibition will showcase a variety of print methods such as monoprints and monotypes, serigraphs, woodcuts, etchings, lithographs and linocuts. This diverse selection of prints will explore several different artistic styles including Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Realism, with subject matter ranging from landscapes and still-lifes to portraits, as well as nonrepresentational pieces. Patrons to the gallery will be given the opportunity to compare and contrast the new works created by local artists with the techniques and imagery utilized in the vintage prints collected by Isadore Lichstein, affectionately know as Uncle Izzy.
There will be a gallery talk on March 5 starting at 6pm during the First Friday reception for this event. The talk will review different printmaking processes and discuss the value of fine art prints and how they differ from photographic reproductions such as giclee prints. The talk will also touch on the collectibility of fine art prints and how they can be an excellent investment.
Isadore Gallery is located at 228 North Prince Street in Lancaster. Gallery hours are Thursday 10-6, Friday 10-6, and Saturdays 10-5. A First Friday reception will be held for “Appreciating Prints” on March 5th from 5-9. Please join us at 6pm on March 5th for the gallery talk on understanding and collecting prints.
