"Still Memories" by David Bottini
February 4 - February 27
"First Friday" Reception February 5th, 5-9PM
Sponsored by Braverman Financial Associates
David Bottini’s landscape paintings narrate a personal journey where a ragged trail, a view through forest toward a distant vista, or a weatherworn pasture caught in a breeze capture your interest.
His work begins on sight, from direct observation, and is gradually built up with layers of paint. He may wander through woods or along streams for hours before finding the perfect composition and interplay of light and shadow. “I strive to make a viewer aware of a fleeting moment of solitude in nature where nature’s quiet and environmental elements create a lasting impression of a specific & personal place and time… the romanced image of a cherished memory.”
Bottini recently returned to live and paint where he was born and raised, amid the scenic hills and farmland of the Susquehanna Valley. “I still find a certain flavor to the Central Pennsylvania rolling landscape particularly alluring.” “The light, the colors of the fields and the great variety of terrain and atmospheric effects in this river valley furnish endless awe and subjects for artistic study.”
Bottini began his study of art in the foundation program at the Rhode Island School of Art and Design. He completed his BA in Fine Art and Philosophy at Mount St. Mary’s College in Maryland and his MFA in painting at Savannah College of Art and Design. Bottini was awarded a residency at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater in Pennsylvania.
He pursued a distinguished career in art education, earning the title “Master Teacher” while chairing the Visual Art Department at the Madeira School, a top-tier prep school in the DC area. He has also taught at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., Susquehanna University in Sellingsgrove, PA, and Frederick Community College.
Bottini’s involvement in the arts community includes three years on the Teacher Advisory Board of the National Gallery of Art in Washington and Museum Liaison and Chair for Kids-In-Design, a group of volunteer design professionals working with school and community organizations in Baltimore, MD.
Bottini has exhibited in numerous state and national exhibits. His work is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States including that of the publisher of Newsweek, as well as many congressmen.
His landscapes are signed Gabriel with Bottini's signature on the back of each work. He uses the painting signature as a dedication to his Italian grandfather (Gabriel Bottini) whose interest and appreciation of nature and the world inspired him.
Still Memories, Landscape Paintings by David Bottini will be on display at Isadore Gallery, 228 N. Prince Street in Lancaster, from February 4 through 27. The artist will be present for first Friday reception on February 5, 5-9 PM. Normal gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays 10-6 PM, Saturdays 10-5 PM and by appointment call 717-299-0127.
