![]() Clay Art: Clay Monoprints and Vessels by Mitch Lyons April 30 - June 20 "First Friday" Reception May 1st, 5-9PM
Mitch Lyons is best known for creating his own art form—printing with clay. It was a natural direction for Lyons who was trained as a printmaker at the University of the Arts and then received his MFA in ceramics from Tyler School of Art. One day, whole rolling out some pigmented clay to adorn his pottery, he noticed the image it left on newsprint. He has been experimenting with the process of making clay monoprints for 30 years in his studio in New London, Pennsylvania. Lyons has fun making colorful textures and lines with his hand-mixed colored clay slips. The final composition is then transferred to dampened paper or canvas. Lyons has given hundreds of workshops all over the country with his invented printing medium. His clay monoprints are included in collections throughout the United States including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Woodmere Museum, American University and the University of Delaware. |
