Two Views Plein-Air Landscapes Painted Side by Side by Two Artists Aaron Brooks - Paul Manlove
March 5 - March 28, 2009
"First Friday" Reception March 6th, 5-9PM
Aaron Brooks and Paul Manlove have been painting landscapes together for the last year.
They chose unpopulated areas in the Susquehanna Valley such as rivers, streams, forest interiors, fields, and quarries. Their excursions were a shared experience in nature and art. While they painted they had lively discussions about other painters, art history and their own work. Both Brooks and Manlove paint with oil on canvas, but they have different working methods, artistic temperaments and art historical references. This show is a visual chronicle of these two individualistic painters finding common ground in the landscape. Seeing the paintings side by side, viewers will appreciate how two different artists interpret the same motif.
Aaron Brooks has an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BFA from the University of Michigan. He is currently teaching painting and drawing at Elizabethtown College, Millersville University, and Harrisburg Area Community College. Paul Manlove has an MFA from Brooklyn College and a BA from Millersville University. He is teaching art at Penn State Harrisburg.
Two Views will in on exhibit at Isadore Gallery, 228 N. Prince Street in Lancaster, March 5 through 28. First Friday Reception will be held March 6, 5-9 PM. Normal gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays 10-6 PM, Saturdays 10-5 PM, and by appointment call (717) 299-0127.
