Prints from Izzy's Attic
February 5 - February 28, 2009
"First Friday" Reception February 6th, 5-8PM
Prints from the Past on display at Isadore Gallery for the month of February features works collected by Isadore, mostly in the 1960’s as a member of a print club that promoted the work of contemporary printmakers to bring original art to a wider audience.
The exhibition showcases a variety of traditional print media, including woodcut, wood engraving, aquatint, etching, lithography, mezzotint, and drypoint. Furthermore, this selection of prints encompasses several different artistic styles, including Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Geometric Expressionism, and Realism, with subjects ranging from landscapes and still-lifes to portraits and nonrepresentational pieces. The show includes work by artists such as Juan Jose Torralba (Miro’s lithographer) Carol Appel (founder of the Cobra group), William Majors (associated with the Spiral group of African American Artists), Leonard Baskin (a noted book illustrator), Lars Bo (illustrator of the original version of Hans Christian Anderson’s Fairy Tales) and Alexander Calder (famous for his mobiles).
