Yoko Sekino-Bové returns to the Lancaster art scene following her 2007 success here winning the “Best Vase” award at the 15th Annual “Strictly Functional Pottery National” exhibit . A busy teacher, lecturer, and writer, the Japanese-born artist still finds the time to practice her craft as a ceramicist.

After receiving her Bachelor of Art degree in graphic design at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan, and working in the graphic design field, Sekino-Bové came to the United States to study advertising design. While working and studying in the U.S. she discovered her love for ceramics and began her pursuit of a professional career in the field. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma and was selected to be the Artist in Residence at the Army Art Center in West Palm Beach FL from 2004-2005. Sekino-Bové moved to Pennsylvania in 2005 to teach at Sweetwater Art Center in Pennsylvania. She continues to exhibit and conduct numerous ceramic workshops across the United States. Her work has been published in books and periodicals including Ceramics Monthly, 500 Cups and Clay Times.

Sekino-Bové examines human nature by painting allegorical images of animals and plants on traditional ceramic forms. She hopes to convey subtle, quiet aspects of feeling on items that are used in everyday life. In doing this, she invites the audience to explore the unexpected and develop an intimate relationship with the piece.

The Ceramic work of Yoko Sekino-Bové will be on display July 3rd through August 30th at Isadore Gallery, 228 N. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA.
